Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Redddy

It has been confirmed by officials that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Redddy, along with two of his staff and the two pilots aboard the ill fated Bell Chopper have died.

The five bodies were found by the Indian Air Force at 9:50am IST today, roughly 24 hours after air traffic control at Begumpet lost radio contact with the chopper on Wednesday. The aircraft crash landed on a hill 40kms from Kurnool district and was found to be in a badly mangled state.

YSR was at the peak of his political power before his sad demise. Congress party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters that Reddy was a "dynamic leader" and his death was "tragic". Television footage showed his family and supporters crying after news emerged that there had been no survivors in the helicopter crash.
